One of my favorite things is mercury glass. I am consistently drawn to it, and it occurred to me that my love of this beautiful silvery glass is completely connected to my love of druzys. They are both glamorous with a hint of raw, edgy, earthy beauty.
Our morning reading led us to this very interesting article from The Cut taking us about a history of the most scandalous dresses throughout history. From Josephine Baker’s thigh and midriff baring banana skirt to Bjork’s swan seen around the world, there were quite a few head turners.
However, as we’re in the world of jewels and bobbles, we turned our attention to the gems that have shocked the world. Here are a few noteworthy favorites…
At 45.25 carats in a stunning deep grey-blue, The Hope Diamond has seen more than The Titanic would have you believe. Rumored to be cursed, the wearers of the stone suffered disgraced deaths and ruined love affairs.
The La Peregrina Pearl began it’s journey of crushing romances in the sixteenth century, when Phillip II of Spain bestowed it upon Mary Tudor. Anyone who knows Mary more fondly as Bloody Mary is surely aware that this marriage, and her life, ended quite poorly and quickly. After several more failed marriages for which it was a gift, it was eventually given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton – another famed marriage that didn’t quite stand the test of time.
Who doesn’t remember the pink diamond seen around the world? When Ben Affleck proposed to Jennifer Lopez in 2002 with the 6.1 carat Harry Winston stunner, it set off the colored engagement ring trend we are still seeing today. While the engagement didn’t last, the trendsetting ability of that ring likely isn’t going anywhere.
August is here, which means back to school season is upon us! While most of us are past the age of pencil pouches and backpacks, we can’t help but begin buckling down with business and sprucing up our fall wardrobes (or your jewelry boxes). With a few of these pieces you’re sure to get a passing grade…
The monogrammed Lola look is equal parts preppy and edgy

Bracelet hair ties are perfect for a polished pony
On a recent trip to the Fairfax-Melrose flea market, I found myself under sensory overload. I could not handle seeing all the amazing pieces of jewelry, new and old. I was beyond inspired. Here are a few of my faves:
In the below picture, I started to think how amazing it would be if these shapes were magnets and you could move them around to make different designs. What do you think?
I am so grateful for places like the flea market. Seeing how old can become new again is priceless. I even picked up on a new wiring technique. I cannot wait to incoropate this in a new design. Stay tuned….
If you have a chance to go to flea market, I strongly suggest you do. You never know what you are going to find and hopefully, you will get it for super cheap!!
Summer blues have you feeling down? In a few of our favorite layering pieces we use a few mood enhancing stones. Which is your favorite?
Peridot, a protector against negative emotions, is a lovely shade of green.
Garnet, the stone of passion and desire, is a deep, fiery red
Craving an energy boost without the coffee? Carnelian is your best bet – said to increase energy as well as calm a hot temper and guard against poverty.
I know in my last posting, I mentioned how my BFF bribed me to run a 10k with her by telling me that we would be able to go wine tasting the rest of the weekend… Well, now I wanted to really tell the world how much she means to me! Julia and I met when we were 12years old. I honestly can say that I do not know what my life would be without her. She is my biggest fan, biggest critic, shoulder to cry, and the first person I call when something funny happens. Every person on earth should have a Julia, and I tell her that all the time. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful, caring, beautiful person in my life.
When I wanted to give up my career in entertainment for one in jewelry, everyone really thought I was crazy… except Julia. She told me that I should go for it, and that she would have my back. 10+ years later, and she still has my back!
Over 23 years of friendship, and we have been through so much together! There is no one else I would want by my side through it all. I want nothing but health, love, and happiness for her for the rest of her life. When were running that 10K she pushed and encouraged me the entire way. She knew how much that race meant to me. At some point she even offered to give me the shirt off her back if I needed it– that’s Julia.
Not sure if Julia subscribes to this blog, and is going to read this, but I want her to know that I love her and thank her for being an amazing friend!
