Silvery Inspiration

One of my favorite things is mercury glass. I am consistently drawn to it, and it occurred to me that my love of this beautiful silvery glass is completely connected to my love of druzys. They are both glamorous with a hint of raw, edgy, earthy beauty. druzys and mercury glass

DVF Journey of a dress

feel like a woman wear a dressThis past weekend, a friend and I hit the town to go see a new exhibit at LACMA called DVF Journey of a Dress. It was a beautiful day and an even better day to look back on years of fashion with one of my favorite designers Diane Von Furstenberg. She not only knows fashion, but she seems to have life down as well, making her a well rounded role model for all women.

Diane Von Furstenberg started off with a simple idea: the wrap dress. It was this one, simple idea that catapulted her into fame, fortune and – of course – fashion. It’s funny to think of one person coming up with that idea. Wrap dresses are a staple, and I can’t imagine a world without them. They are easy to throw in a suitcase, wear on a lunch date, or glam up for an evening look. Some of them are so comfy you could live in them!

While drooling over the hoards of dresses from the 60’s to the present, what surprised me was how many of the dresses were so current. I don’t think there were any in the collection that I wouldn’t be thrilled to wear today.

Along with the display of dresses from years past, there was an entire gallery dedicated to portraits of Diane. Andy Warhol’s iconic portraits hung on one entire wall while all sorts of others surrounded. Many were photographs, some were paintings, an animated piece, and a portrait made entirely out of ash (one of my favorites). With so many artists interested in depicting DVF, it is clear that I am not the only one who is fascinated by her.

This inspirational exhibit was  an awe-inspiring look into the life and empire founded by the fabulous DVF.

Pantone Color of the Year

Screen Shot 2014-01-14 at 10.43.17 PM

Every year since 2000, the color geniuses of Pantone come up with a color of the year. The color for 2014 is “Radiant Orchid”. It was picked out this year in London and was described as “a captivating harmony of fuschia, purple and pink undertones”. Each color represents something for that year and for 2014 Radiant Orchid is supposed to inspire creativity, inspiration, and innovation. I love the idea of a universal color creating the same feelings for all. Although this color is a little brighter than amethyst, I think it really complements the gem.

Here are a few things we are loving in this brilliant hue:

Emmy Awards 2012

This year’s Emmy Awards was one of the brightest in recent memory. The corals, yellows, and aquas were staying firmly in summer, which were appropriate considering despite it officially being Autumn, temperatures refuse to drop! All the ladies looked lovely, but here are a few of the best:

Zooey Deschanel in
Julian Moore in Christian Dior
January Jones in Zac Posen

Claire Danes in Lanvin – this dress has caused quite a debate in our office!Thoughts?

Fall’s Best in Show

Fall is so close we can actually taste it (or could, that is, if we weren’t sweltering in the 100 degree LA heat!).

However, while temperatures may remain stagnant, it’s never too soon to ready your wardrobe. Here are a few trend-ready statement-loving Fall pieces we’re lusting after:

Miu Miu glitter tassel loafers. A bit much? Sure, but we certainly don’t mind!

Baroque prints get an unexpected pop of color this fall thanks to Mr. Cavalli.

Brooches aren’t only for your grandmother this season, just take a queu from Alexander McQueen.

BOOTS, BOOTS, BOOTS. The absolute best part of Fall.

Red lipstick anyone?

What pieces are you most looking forward to this Fall?

3 Pieces To Hang On To

When it comes to fashion, normally our motto is “out with the old, and in with the new”.  However, if you haven’t already, don’t get rid of your wide leg pants, tuxedo jackets, and high slit dresses and skirts!! These key looks from Fall 2011 aren’t going anywhere.  Forget the wool and heavier fabrics, but leave the slinky (most commonly polyester) and denim wide leg pants in your summer wardrobe.  The wider, the better; and don’t be shy about florals and stripes.  Pair them with wedges and a cropped top, and you’ll be right on trend for the warmer months.  When it comes to your tuxedo jackets and blazers from fall, lighter colors and classic black go perfectly with shorts and mini skirts for a night on the town.  Lastly, pair cotton tanks and fitted T’s with your thigh-high slit skirts for an easy daytime to evening transition that is effortlessly glamorous.ImageImageImage
